World Hunger Day 2021

World Hunger Day, May 28th

May 28th 2021 is the Annual World Hunger Day created by The Hunger Project to bring awareness to the more than 690 million people living in chronic hunger during an unprecedented global crisis.

The facts

  • 690 million people are living in chronic hunger
  • 130 million additional people may be pushed into chronic hunger by the COVID-19 pandemic
  • 60% of the world’s hungry are women

On World Hunger Day – and every day – we ask the world to come together with a shared goal of realizing healthy, fulfilling lives of self-reliance and dignity for all people.

The UN World Food Programme Executive Director, David Beasley announced that, at the same time that we are dealing with the COVID-19 pandemic, we are also on the brink of a hunger pandemic. Influences such as this pandemic, climate change or economic turbulence affect millions of people on the cusp of food insecurity because of price hikes or breaks in the food supply chain.

At The Hunger Project we believe people are extraordinary. We work to empower people living in hunger to become agents of change, lifting their communities above the poverty line, for good.

Our sustainable approach means that in response to the pandemic, we have been able to mobilize over 500,000 local leaders in 13 countries around the world to help spread correct information and support to communities at risk during the COVID-19 crisis, to make sure no-one is left behind.

This World Hunger Day we find ourselves in an extraordinary global situation.

Coronavirus is spreading across our world and dramatically impacts the poorest communities of the globe: those who are living in hunger, where social distancing is a privilege, and who don’t have the same access to information, sanitation and healthcare as we do.

We invite you to take action and join our grassroots campaign. Your support helps empower people to end hunger in their communities once and for all.
