HUNGER is the great scandal of our age
Today The Hunger Project UK has joined with more than 80 other organisations as part of the IF campaign to ensure that every woman, man and child gets the opportunity to live a sustainable life free from hunger and poverty.
Hunger kills more people than AIDS, malaria and tuberculosis combined. Millions of women, men and children die each year because of chronic persistent hunger – TWO million are children.
Around the world, one in eight people go to bed hungry every night. The food system is broken.
The world produces enough food for everyone, but not everyone has enough food.
We know we can change this. All this suffering and death is preventable IF we can persuade our governments to act.
This year, the world’s most powerful leaders will meet in the UK. They could change the future for millions of people who live with the day to day struggle of hunger, but only IF we work together to force them to fix it.

The issues
In 2013, we need our leaders to tackle four big IFs.
1. Aid
Enough food for everyone IF we give enough aid to stop children dying from hunger and help the poorest families have enough food to live.
2. Land
Enough food for everyone IF we stop poor farmers being forced off their land, and we grow crops to feed people not fuel cars.
IF we stop land grabs, we can make sure that millions of people get enough to eat.
IF we grow crops for food not fuel, we can stop millions going hungry.
3. Tax
Enough food for everyone IF governments stop big companies dodging tax in poor countries, so that millions of people can free themselves from hunger.
4. Transparency
Enough food for everyone IF we force governments and investors are open and honest about the actions that prevent people getting enough food.
IF our leaders take these steps, it will change the future for millions of people who live with the day to day struggle of hunger. This year could be the beginning of the end for global hunger.
What is IF
Enough Food for Everyone IF is a great movement of individuals and organisations who have joined together to demand an end to the scandal of hunger.
We know we can end hunger. All this suffering and death is preventable IF we make enough noise to persuade our governments to act.

Why now
Nearly one billion people go to bed hungry every night and two million children die from chronic persistent hunger every year. Around the world food prices continue to rise making it even harder for families to put food on the table. We’ve made progress in other areas, but hunger is the great scandal of our age. All around the world, including in the UK, people are struggling to feed their families.
In 2013, the government has promised to provide 0.7 per cent of national income. We must make sure they finally keep this promise. This year, UK Prime Minister David Cameron will host a Hunger Summit ahead of the meeting of the world’s most powerful leaders in the UK.
This is our best opportunity to tackle hunger. We must make IF happen.
