20 March, 2012

Our efforts to ensure awareness of The Hunger Project’s work continues to develop at a pace with many more people stepping up to support the sustainable end of hunger and poverty.

We are now only just over two months away from World Hunger Day 2012 and we are delighted to see so many people donating their diverse talents.

Here are just a few examples to inspire you to get involved:

Dionne Warwick & her friends | Royal Albert Hall - World Hunger Day 2012 | 28 MayA stunning list of legendary vocal talent will be joining us for our ‘main celebration event’ at the Royal Albert Hall, 28 May starring Dionne Warwick & Friends.

We are delighted that Alison Moyet, Mica Paris, Boy George, Tony Hadley, Joe McElderry, the London Community Gospel Choir, Jumoké Fashola and Southbank Sinfonia are all now confirmed to appear. Read their biographies

We will also be making a very special announcement in the next few days which will see one of the UK’s greatest music legends joining the bill. Snap your tickets up now! Royal Albert Hall | Tel: 020 7589 8212

35 people from around the country are already signed up to take part in our extraordinary physical challenge events which will see ‘Team HunMoonriders Night Cycle - London to Brighton 29, June 2012ger’ Walking, Jogging, Running and Cycling for the end of hunger. Why not join them!

Events take place from May through to the end of September…so far…so still time to sign up and get involved.

A special mention to Jaimie Taylor and Simon Speirs (no relation to Mark) who have stepped up to organise their own herculean challenge to cycle fromSimon Speirs, Jaimie Taylor | John O'Groats to Lands End World Hunger Day Cycle John O’Groats to Lands’ End for The Hunger Project, leaving Scotland on World Hunger Day. Jaimie and Simon have both witnessed extreme hunger and poverty, as former members of the armed forces and this has inspired them to take action. Please give them a hand-up with their sponsorship.

Awareness – The Team at BrandMe, Debbie Smith at Thirty Three and our PR Guru Miranda Leslau have been working tirelessly to build our presence in the media. Kicked off by Dionne’s performance on the (primetime) Jonathan Ross Show….. we are delighted that advertisements for World Hunger Day are now running in most of the quality National Press and beyond with much more support still to come.

Huge gratitude to all involved in helping us MAKE A NOISE!!

One World One Song for the sustainable end of hunger and poverty. More about this very soon, but we are very fortunate that songwriter Tony Hatch (the composer of the hits Downtown, Colour My World and the theme tune to Neighbours! to name but a few) and our show producer Rod Natkiel have helped me to write a song to be launched on 28 May.

One World. One Song. Written by Tony Hatch, Rod Natkiel, Tim HolderTeam Hunger and the London Community Gospel Choir ventured over to Trevor Horne’s Sarm Studios in Notting Hill last week to record the demo for the song which, we hope, will turn the whole concept of the ‘charity record’ on its head….soon rehearsals will begin with 200 students from Woodbridge School (they raised nearly £4,000 for The Hunger Project at their annual Fashion Show earlier this month)  who will be joining our brand new World Hunger Day Choir for the event.

As always, many thanks to our Trustees, Patrons, Ambassadors and Volunteers for helping us to make this all happen. As you know, our staff of two (Mark Speirs and I) are very much in need of all the support we can get! Please step up and be part of Team Hunger.
