Thirty brave challengers set off on Saturday 12 May, 2012 for our first, in a series of World Hunger Day Challenges.

London 2 Brighton Challenge 2012 | The Hunger ProjectThe London 2 Brighton Challenge is an incredibly tough annual 100km ultra marathon which starts in Richmond and stretches 100km through the North and South Downs to the South Coast finishing in Brighton.

Most of our challengers opted to walk and some even ran the 2.5 marathon distance after a warm up from Mr Motivator in Richmond Deer Park. The conditions were perfect above the course (clear skies and cool temperatures) but underfoot was extremely muddy and many parts of the course were diverted.

A quote from Gary Campbell, Business Development Director at Ellis Pharma sums it up! {The Hunger Project describes the challenge as a “definitive test of endurance, determination and teamwork”. After completing the challenge Gary said; “Believe me, this was probably the most mentally and physically tough challenge I have ever undertaken for charity in my life.”} Read full story

Unfortunately we lost a few challengers after 53 km due to injuries but that was still an incredible achievement! Well done to everyone and at the last count we had raised over £16,000 for our work creating sustainable solutions to hunger and poverty.

Team i‘s (Joe, Damian and GrahamYouTube Video, they completed the challenge in 25hours. For all the pictures from the event please visit our flickr channel.

A special mention goes to Cordelia who pulled up injured with an achilles injury at 95km, Aadil who got lost and ended up running 112km, Samuel who finished 4th and Phill who finished 11th (out of 1800 participants!).

If you fancy taking on a challenge we are recruiting volunteers to join our Moonriders London to Brighton Cycle in the dark!! (29 Jun) and the Thames Path Challenge (29 Sep) where you can choose your distance for what will be a picturesque 12 or 24hour challenge through the day and night!
