Dionne Warwick, with special guest Sir Cliff Richard OBE and a host of international artists, unite in London for one night only at the Royal Albert Hall in support of World Hunger Day 2012 and The Hunger Project
–Dionne Warwick leads the premiere of ‘One World, One Song’, created as an anthem for the sustainable end of hunger and poverty–
28.05.12: All eyes are on London tonight at this year’s World Hunger Day 2012 Concert in support of The Hunger Project, taking place at the Royal Albert Hall. A grandiose-scale musical celebration in the heart of the Capital will also host the launch of the UK’s first ‘One World, One Song’ song, performed by Dionne Warwick, Joe McElderry, London Community Gospel Choir and 200 British school children, to educate, inspire and inform about the reality of global hunger.
According to Dionne Warwick:-
“I am delighted to be performing the premiere of the ‘One World, One Song’ launch in support of The Hunger Project, performing to a full-house of 5,500 people at the Royal Albert Hall. The eradication of chronic and persistent hunger will not end overnight – tonight is just the start. Each and every one of us has an individual and collective responsibility to educate the next generation about their commitment to making a difference for the greater good of all”.
Tim Holder, UK Country Director for The Hunger Project, added:-
“World Hunger Day 2012, the second annual World Hunger Day and the launch of ‘One World, One Song’, will be just the start of an engagement project which we hope will see the whole world singing for the end of hunger. There are still 25,000 people dying each and every day from hunger and poverty-related illnesses in Sub-Saharan Africa, South Asia and Latin America, 90 per cent of whom continue to do so due to chronic and persistent hunger – rather than from emergency situations such as famine, earthquake or flood.
“Dionne Warwick has a motto, “If you think it, you can do it…” which is wholly applicable to the message we hope to share tonight and globally as World Hunger Day grows. Music is a universal tool of communication – a way of bringing people together, regardless of their age, culture or creed. Tonight we are very much uniting for change in one voice and you too can be part of this process,” he added.
‘One World, One Song’ is composed by the musical genius of Tony Hatch and co-written by Tim Holder, UK Country Director for The Hunger Project and Rod Natkiel, Producer of World Hunger Day 2012. This song will be performed by Dionne Warwick, Joe McElderry, London Community Gospel Choir and 200 school children from a school in Suffolk, Woodbridge School, local to where Tim Holder lives and grew up.
Joe McElderry added:-
“It is a real privilege to be participating in this debut performance of ‘One World, One Song’ in the Royal Albert Hall, alongisde the legend that is Dionne Warwick and also supporting such an essential global cause. It is so great to be involved in sharing The Hunger Project’s message by creating vital awareness through this one night only World Hunger Day extravaganza”.
