US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton has launched 1,000 Days: Change a Life, Change the Future, a global movement to reduce child undernutrition.

At the launch, which Hunger Project President and CEO Mary Ellen McNish attended, Secretary Clinton specifically thanked The Hunger Project along with our partner organisations for our role in establishing the thousanddays.org website as a unified hub on nutrition issues. Secretary Clinton emphasised the website’s ability to engage countless groups of people to join the movement and improve the lives of children throughout the world.

About the 1,000 Days Movement

Maternal and child nutrition during the first 1,000 days – pregnancy through age two – shapes a child’s future. This critical window of time can have a measurable and lasting impact on a child’s growth and development. A group of organisations, including The Hunger Project, have come together to support the shared purpose of a health first 1,000 days for children worldwide.

The Hunger Project has been involved in the formulation and launching of this project with partner organisations Save the Children, Bread for the World and World Vision, as the same group participated in the design of Feed the Future (the Global Food Security Initiative) with the State Department. The overall coordination is being led by InterAction (a coalition of NGOs) in partnership with the United Nations Scaling Up Nutrition Initiative.
